Coldflow 350

Biodiesel will cloud like petroleum diesel fuel when the weather gets cold. Initially we see little crystals of wax forming and these crystals will begin to clog fuel filters. When it becomes colder still, the biodiesel will form into a gel that will eventually set solid.

Depending on the type of oils used to make your biodiesel ie. virgin rape seed oil has a lower pour-point (or CFPP -- Cold-Filter Plugging Point) than used cooking oil (UCO, WVO) mixtures. This is due to the level of saturation, or number of hydrogen atoms present. This is determined by the Iodine value. Generally the higher the Iodine value of the oil, the biodiesel esters produced will take on a lower pour point.

To avoid this problem we suggest your produced biodiesel is treated with ColdFlow 350, flow improver additive that has been specifically designed to modify the wax crystals, lowering the pour point of the fuel.

Treatment Procedure:

We recommend ColdFlow 350 is added to the biodiesel after the final filtration process is complete and whilst the biodiesel is being pumped to the clean storage vessel.

The ColdFlow 350 has been uniquely formulated in being able to mix rapidly with the warm biodiesel to ensure a full homogenous mixture.

ColdFlow 350 should be added when the diesel has been either heated around 35 degC or is being filtered warm around 30 degC.

The product should not be added if the temperature is below 20 degC or if there is a lot of “white deposits
" present in the oil. Both situations will/may cause the ColdFlow to be ineffective in reducing the predicted Pour point temperature.

Please note: should the biodiesel have other additives that are not supplied by Chemiphase Ltd then there may be further alterations to the predicted pour point.

As part of providing a comprehensive service for our products, we have the ability to test your biodiesel  for treatment recommendations or potential compatability problems.

Safety Data Information:

Please Consult the Material Safety Data Sheet  on ColdFlow 350. ColdFlow 350 does contain less than 1%  of Toluene and therefore must be handled with care.
